Kiddie Kastle

City/Town:
Location Class:
Built: 1911 | Abandoned: N/A
Status: Demolished
Photojournalist: AbandonedOK Team

After doing some research and visiting the place again and reading through some scattered papers, it appears this building was used as a child care for the East Side Church of Christ. Each room has a cubby hole area with children’s names above each box. I can’t determine if this was built for this purpose or if this was a house first, day care second.  The house is in bad shape, and half of the house is not accessible because of the horrible water damage that has caused the house to literally split down the middle.

Starting from a young age, I’ve always loved exploring. I can remember venturing off and scoping out the houses being built in the developing neighborhood right behind my house. As I got older, I found myself appreciating the work and love that went into architecture and just being excited to pass by the beautifully designed places in downtown.

My roommates came home the other day stating they had been to this building that day, they brought home records of the school, social security card numbers, names of children from the 70's. It was strange, what happend? …and why are there old documents as important as a social left behind?

My mom told me this place is either called Kiddie's Corner. Its was used for day care and youth center. She told me that this place closed in the 70s because of the house was too old, water damaged and falling apart and used the main church instead because of low funding and couldn't restore the building. Eastside Church of Christ own Kiddie's corner till this day. You can still see the old sign of this place soon as you drive up the driveway.

There’s an abandoned school at Hefner & Eastern Ave in OKC, on Hefner west of the intersection. It has been empty for as long as I can remember. You should check it out, I’d love to see it
