Coyle Jail

City/Town:
Location Class:
Built: 1913 | Abandoned:
Status: Abandoned
Photojournalist: Cathy Brock, Sara Yarbrough

The Coyle Jail, just on the outskirts of town is one that is considerably bigger than other calabooses I have documented. Built in 1913, it is a two-room jail with enough room for a jailer to to also occupy the quarters.

It still holds the original cell doors but has been unused as a jail for decades given the dwindling population of the town. It now serves a purpose as storage for the City of Coyle. While attention to the jail has increased over the years, it is uncertain if the City will take a stance and aid or seek preservation of the building, perhaps as a historic tourism destination!
