Hidden behind tall brush and young trees is the Strang Jail. Forgotten by the community it used to serve. It is a prime example of my work to document these calabooses. Its history is kept only with the elders of the community, not in newspapers or books. And so it sits until it succumbs to the hands of nature or to a revitalization project by a new lover of history.
One can only hope that one day the large grass is cut back, a new coat of paint is put on it and the trees that shutter it from onlookers are taken down so that we don’t lose any more history.

Emily Chisolm have you tried sending for his death certificate? The state of Oklahoma would have that on file somewhere if records were decently kept. The certificate would likely give you information on where, when and how he passed away. And with luck who handled his corpse afterwards. Also what is your family’s name in Strang, Ok? I live very close to there and have lived around Grand Lake my whole life.lol
