Dougherty Jail

City/Town:
Location Class:
Built: 1909 | Abandoned: Unknown
Status: AbandonedPrivate Property
Photojournalist: Cathy Brock

The Dougherty Jail is another perfect example of a calaboose lost to time. Not in the physical sense as the building appears to be in pretty good shape and holding up nicely, but in the sense of history.

When you drive by this building, from the outside you would probably never realize its a jail. But if you did happen to know from other research that it was in fact a calaboose, you wouldn’t be able to find information on its history online.

Throughout history, our society has made it a pattern of abandoning buildings whether they deem them historic or not, at the time of their abandonment most don’t care to note their history for future generations. In the case of tiny jails or calabooses, most of their history remains a secret and lost to time.

What we do know is this jail was built in 1909 and nothing else, if you or anyone has stories about this jail please feel free to comment them.
